How to make Lasagna
Lasagna is a classic and delicious Italian dish consisting of layers of pasta, sauce, and cheese. It is popular worldwide and can be prepared in various variations. In this article, we will show you how to prepare a tasty and aromatic lasagna at home.
Ingredients:
For the sauce:
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 large diced onion (or another type of sausage)
- 3 cloves of minced garlic
- 500 grams ground beef (or pork)
- Tomato puree (about 400 grams)
- Chopped tomatoes (about 400 grams)
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
For the layers:
- 250 grams lasagna noodles (dried)
- 500 grams mozzarella cheese
- 250 grams ricotta cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 egg
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions:
Making the sauce:
- In a large non-stick skillet, heat the olive oil. Add the diced onion and garlic and sauté for about 5 minutes until they become soft and fragrant.
- Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it into small pieces with a spoon, until it turns brown and releases all its juices.
- Add the tomato puree and chopped tomatoes, then reduce the heat and let the sauce simmer for about 20-25 minutes.
- Add the sugar, salt, black pepper, basil, and oregano, and stir well. Let the sauce simmer for an additional 5 minutes to allow all the flavors to meld.
Preparing the layers:
- In a large bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, and grated Parmesan. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
Assembling the lasagna:
- Take an ovenproof dish and start assembling the lasagna.
- Spread a thin layer of sauce on the bottom of the dish.
- Place a layer of dried lasagna noodles.
- Add half of the mozzarella and half of the ricotta mixture.
- Place another layer of dried lasagna noodles and cover with the remaining sauce.
- Add the remaining mozzarella and ricotta mixture.
- Top it off with a final layer of dried lasagna noodles and grated Parmesan.
Cooking:
- Cover the dish with aluminium foil and bake it in a preheated oven at 180 degrees Celsius (about 350 degrees Fahrenheit) for about 30 minutes.
- Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the lasagna develops a golden crust.
- Remove the lasagna from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
